How does storage protection work? Information on item declaration, liability, and claims

Differentiate between CCTV, service liability, and insurance; understand the declaration of special items, and what information to retain when encountering damage or handover discrepancies.

Short answer

Storage protection should be considered separately in terms of security and environment, service liability, and applicable insurance. CCTV or air-conditioning does not mean items are fully covered; special or high-value items must be declared in advance to obtain receipt confirmation. When discovering damage, loss, or discrepancies, keep box numbers, photos, handover records, and quotes for investigation as early as possible; do not assume a compensation amount or set a claim deadline yourself.

Key summary

  • Security facilities, receipt confirmation, and coverage confirmation are separate matters.
  • Value, special materials, and storage requirements must be stated in advance.
  • If anomalies are found, prioritise safety first, then preserve information for verification.
  • Liability and protection are handled according to actual circumstances, confirmed terms, and applicable law.

1. Ask about security, service liability, and insurance separately

CCTV, access control, cleaning, and air-conditioning are management provisions; it cannot be assumed that every type of item, every risk, or any amount is covered. An air-conditioned environment does not guarantee a specific constant temperature and humidity; enquire about actual specifications beforehand if special storage conditions are required.

Whether insurance is provided, the scope of coverage, declared value, exclusions, and processing procedures must be clearly documented. Without written confirmation, do not assume items are fully insured; this page does not replace policies, individual confirmation letters, or professional legal advice.

2. Specify the nature of items first; they cannot be summarised as general sundries

High-value equipment, artwork, collectibles, devices containing lithium batteries, and items with strict environmental requirements must have their nature and condition declared in advance to confirm whether they can be received and what handling is required. Accepting storage does not mean any special risks or declared amounts are covered.

Cash, jewellery, important documents, and original irreplaceable files should be kept by yourself; prohibited items cannot become acceptable just because you are willing to pay or package them yourself. Avoid sending unnecessary sensitive content when providing information; necessary declarations should be completed according to the appropriate procedures specified by customer service.

3. Value and condition records should be prepared before handover

You may save purchase or repair records, model numbers, serial numbers, and photos of the exterior to identify items, and label existing damage or accessories separately. If you do not have original receipts, enquire about other information that can be used for verification, but we cannot guarantee that any substitute documents will be sufficient to prove value.

Self-completed valuations, photos, or quotes do not equate to the service provider accepting that value as the basis for compensation. When needing to declare value, special handling, or additional protection, clarify beforehand whether it is provided, the applicable conditions, and any fees, and retain complete confirmation content.

4. When anomalies are found, secure the area first and record the facts

If you receive items and find damage, missing parts, or incorrect box numbers, note the time, serial number, quantity, and visible condition, and notify customer service as soon as possible. Retain outer packaging, seals, and accessories that can be kept safely; do not touch or attempt to use items with leaks, broken glass, or abnormal batteries for the sake of taking photos.

Use specific descriptions instead of reaching conclusions first, such as which box, which side is damaged, which accessory is missing, and when it was discovered. Do not arrange repairs or disposal that may destroy evidence of the condition without prior communication; if immediate action is needed to avoid danger, record the reasonable handling taken.

5. Submit a set of data that can be cross-referenced

Organise quotes, service confirmations, item lists, handover records, photos before and after handover, relevant receipts, and contact times related to the issue. Map photos to box numbers and items rather than sending a large number of unlabelled images at once, to facilitate review by both parties along a timeline.

If other items are still in storage, clearly state which part requires follow-up and if there is an urgent need for retrieval. Customer service may need to verify information further; submitting an application or starting an investigation does not mean liability has been admitted, nor does it mean the issue will be handled according to your pre-set amount or time.

  • Service and handover dates
  • Box number, item model, and specific discrepancies
  • Original condition and photos at the time of discovery
  • Relevant quotes, confirmations, receipts, and contact records

6. Retain statutory rights while understanding terms

Liability and handling depend on the actual cause, service content, confirmed terms, and applicable law; the service provider is not automatically exempt just because the customer packed the items themselves. Any limitation of liability or protection arrangements are subject to legal requirements.

The available information does not disclose a uniform, fixed compensation amount or claim period for all services; this document will not add these. Reflect and check individual applicable procedures as early as possible; if there are disagreements regarding the facts or handling, organise the disputed items and evidence before following up, rather than treating marketing copy as a complete protection guarantee.

FAQs

If there is CCTV, is there definitely insurance for items?
No. CCTV is a security measure; availability of insurance, coverage scope, and procedures need to be clearly confirmed separately and cannot be assumed from the facility.
If I declare the value of items, will I definitely be compensated at that price?
Not necessarily. Declaration, eligibility for receipt, and protection confirmation are separate matters; applicable insurance, scope of liability, and compensation benchmarks must be cross-checked with information explicitly confirmed before service and with applicable law.
If I find damage but do not have the receipt, should I still contact you?
Report it as early as possible and save existing information, including photos of items, model numbers, handover lists, and relevant records, then enquire about what needs to be supplemented. The lack of a receipt is not a reason not to report, but we cannot guarantee that any data will be sufficient to prove value or receive compensation.
